Do you mean you applied for the EHIC card? If so then this covers you only as a tourist in the Netherlands and only for emegency cover, so e.g. going to a doctor for a routine issue is not covered only. it is only for emegencies and may not even cover all costs anyway. An EHIC card issued by the UK is only for UK residents. http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/staying-safe/travel-insurance/ehic
As soon as you register at the gemeentehuis (municipality) which you will need to do in order to get a BSN number (like the UK NI number) in order to work, then you become a legal resident
When you are legally residing in the Netherlands the EHIC card will not cover you, and all NL residents are required by law to have the basic health insurance cover. http://www.minvws.nl/en/themes/health-insurance-system/default.asp
Now there is one possibility I know of if you are not working and that is claiming benefit under the E106 and you can read about this here http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcareabroad/movingabroad/Pages/Livingabroad.aspx However as soon as you have work, then you will need Dutch health insurance.
